Annoyed that Senate Democrats are blocking a police reform bill, President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the 20 U.S. cities with the highest crime rates are all run by Democrats.
“The Senate Republicans want very much to pass a bill on police reform,” Trump said during a Rose Garden press conference with Polish President Andrzej Duda. “I would like to see it happen. We won’t sacrifice. We won’t do that. We won’t do anything that is going to hurt our police.”
The president added:
We have a record positive rating on crime, a record positive rating on crime this year. The best. You hear about certain places like Chicago and you hear about what’s going on in Detroit and other cities, all Democrat-run. Every one of them is Democrat-run. The 20 worst, the 20 most dangerous are Democrat-run.
A quick fact check shows that Trump is at least mostly correct. One ranking says the top 20 most dangerous cities are run by 18 Democrat mayors and two mayors who were elected in nonpartisan races.
According to the website Neighborhood Scout, which in January published a list of the 100 most dangerous cities in America, heavily Democrat Detroit tops the list. At No. 20 is Chester, Pennsylvania, also with a Democrat mayor.
Trump went on to refer to the so-called autonomous zone in central Seattle, where extremists have taken over six city blocks.
“We have one city, two cities in particular, worse than Honduras, worse than Afghanistan. These are cities within the United States, Democrat-run. Radical left-run. You see what’s going on in Seattle. Seattle of all places, who would even think that’s possible,” he said, adding:
The Democrats want to weaken very substantially our law enforcement, our police. Frankly, they want to defund [police departments], at least largely. Some want to defund and abolish our police. If nothing happens with [police reform], it’s one of those things. We had different philosophies. They want open borders. They want sanctuary cities. We don’t.
Here is the Neighborhood Scout ranking of the most crime-ridden cities and their mayors.

The Left will say "correlation not causation"...I say you get what you vote for

having a 1/50-1/70 chance of being a victim of a violent crime is nuts. Of course there are areas of Chicago that it's more like 1 in 10

Probably because policy would be harsher on crime, but you aren't wrong the main issue is cultural deficiency amongst the crime enthusiasts.
Love how a thread from 2.5 years ago is being brought up today.

I look at the City of Fort Lauderdale. Their mayor is a democrat. I dont see crime being that much different if a Republican was in charge.

People are going to commit crimes in certain areas no matter the what the Mayor of that city's political affiliation.

Sadly, seems that crime has been up everywhere these days based on this F'd up world that we live in

So, Guliani didn't clean up NY to some degree?
Why is the country so fucked up now?
Was crime and violence the same 60 years ago?

Maybe if the wackos who declare there are too many black people in jail therefore no matter the impact we must let people out and not arrest anyone you could stop some of the chaos

Never heard any white people worry how many whites were in jail
Supposedly we don't arrest white people or let them out early because we love whites and hate blacks
When you let out or do not arrest white criminals almost all the negative impact would be on white people
Seems like that would be more negative not positive
How exactly is that a positive for white people as a whole?
To deal with white criminals?
You would think black people would want more criminals arrested
If they are out there the biggest negative impact is on other blacks
Let out or do not arrest black people because it is disproportionate
But so is the negative impact on black people
So, which is more important protecting decent black people or criminal black people?
People are so dumb

You can only do so much to control the riff-raff, yes. But c'mon, of course harsher on crime policies will lead to less crime.

And crime being up has a lot to do with Dem/left policy/rhetoric (weak DA's, demonizing police) which is why many leftist DA's are being recalled (SF) or Dems stronger on crime are being elected (NY with Adams, although that's been a mixed bag I suppose)

Harsher crime is great, i get that.

But when running for office in blue/purple areas, saying that you are "strong on crime" doesnt work with the voters.

There are LOTS of politics when it comes to the "higher ups" in Law enforcement. Have heard some F'd up stories from a few PD'S in my area in the past year or 2

Tons of people have been elected for saying they will be tough on crime. To say it “doesn’t work” is a pretty general statement.

Mayor of NY is an easy example

where it doesn’t really work is state/house races since it is largely seen as a local house

Have to laugh at #7 Danville, Illinois lol. I buy my weed there(legally of course at the dispensary). Casino right down the road opening in the spring I believe. If that’s the 7th most crime infested city in the country then we have no worries lol.
